About VICKY

Hello! I’m Vicky Spratt, an award-winning British journalist, author, writer and broadcaster specialising in economic inequality and how to end it.

It was tempting to write this “About” section in the third person but, it’s 2024, and journalists don’t have assistants these days.

I’ll try to keep this brief.

I’m The i Paper’s housing correspondent where I report on the politics of the housing crisis and the people impacted by it.

I’ve been shortlisted for the British Journalism Awards, Amnesty Awards and the Orwell Prize for my writing.

I’ve also written for a variety of publications including but not limited to The Guardian, BBC, Grazia, Stylist Magazine, ELLE Magazine and Refinery29.

I regularly appear on TV and Radio as a commentator and expert - everywhere from BBC News to Sky News, Newsnight to Radio 4, the Laura Kuenssberg Programme to various TV and radio documentaries as well as podcasts.

I have also presented documentaries for the BBC and spoken at political conferences as well as cultural institutions in Edinburgh to Rotterdam about everything from my writing to the ethics of journalism.

I also write for TV. I currently have one script in development - a comedy drama - and another on the way.

My first book, TENANTS, was published by Profile in 2022. My second will be published by 4th Estate as soon as I finish writing it.

If you made it this far, congratulations. I’ll tell you as a reward that I am also (proudly) more Scottish than I am English, obsessed with medieval history and have recently developed a passion for climbing mountains.

Everything they say about your mid-thirties is true!
